Minimum wage boost vote falls shy in Senate

The need to increase the minimum wage has been apparent for many years as workers face raising living costs and higher gases prices.

This notion however, was thwarted in the Senate yesterday when a ‘52-46 vote in favor of boosting the minimum wage fell shy of the 60 votes needed to overcome procedural hurdles built in to prevent a simple majority vote.’ Read more.

Do you agree with this decision or do you think the minimum wage should be raised?

Another slap in the face of the hard working people of this nation. Just remember that you reap what you sow and what goes around comes around. The meek shall inherit this earth and treat it with reverence and respect just as the creator intended. Remember, God is watching!

I think the minimum wage should be raised. We have so many hard working Americans that live just at or below the poverty level. So we need to find a way to help them as the cost of living and the price of gas rises steadily. It is so very important for us to remember that charity begins at home then spreads abroad.

this action is just another attempt to keep the working class down as has always been the case.as long as the govornment can keep its people in a poor state it has the means to control them at there will.nothing will ever be done because the people are not willing to fight for what they really need.the govornment has taken any hope the american people have or had by us not having the leadership of such great people as martian luther king, hosea williams and the like who would not stand around and twiddle there thumbs over the rip-off gas prices and the minium wage issue but would take to the streets with the people and fight for whats right.nobody left like these true leaders anymore…alas we all suffer…

I find it very interesting that the senate would vote down a raise for us everyday citizens who pay their wages with OUR tax monies!

In 1997, the Georgia senate was already makinf $133,600 per year, plus pensions, perks, benefits and free global junkets just isn’t enough. They wanted $3,072 more — a cost-of-living increase, they call it.

some of us would sell our souls just to be able to afford gasoline at the pumps, to pay our electric bills and other costs of living. some of us have not had a vacation in years, if ever!

I was born in 1961, in 45 years, the minimum wage has only gone up $4.00!! That’s how much us “regular citizens” who are slaving away for our government to make the money they are, think about us!

parent’s!! don’t just encourage your kids to go to college, encourage them to become senators and congressmen ect, that’s probably the only way our kids will be able to afford to live in years to come!

just my way of thinking!

I think an increase in the minimum wage would only help people short-term. As companies pay more for minimum wage workers, companies would have to charge more for products so that their stock has a competitive return(which we own). Next thing you know, we are all complaining about a $12 value meal at McDonald’s. Maybe a maximum wage would be better.
