What’s your plan for life after a layoff?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Just been laid off? Is this the first time it’s happened to you or second or third?
This scenario is never pleasant but it’s best to be prepared in today’s turbulent job market.
What does one do in this situation? Send out a million résumés or just sit back and smell the roses for a while?
In a way, there could actually be an upside to being let go. It could be time for you to seek out training, travel or perhaps it’s time to really think about a drastic career change.

I plan too continue to work and enjoy my days off. I think I like being at home in the morning now. I don’t have too worry about the traffic for the moment. I will enjoy the fruits of my labor thus far. I have an evening job that’s close too the house and I love it hoping to become full time there.

My husband was laid off from Lucent Technologies after 23 years. Our 401K was shot because of Lucent’s plunge, and we were still in debt. We have spent the last five years in a major stressful lifestyle as we struggle just to make ends meet. My advice to anyone, Anyone! is to do what you can to get out of debt and stay out of debt, including working to get rid of your home mortgage. We had opportunities to do that while the boat was still floating, but were kind-of oblivious in our comfort and did not hunker down and take care of debt. Our life would be much less scary now if we had done that earlier.
