Is your job a downer?

Sunday’s ajcjobs lead story focused on people whose jobs deal with others who are going through difficult, emotional situations. A hospice nurse, a family law attorney and a funeral director shared how they cope with constant exposure to others’ pain.

There certainly are many other careers that also could be construed as “depressing” — at least by those of us who don’t hold such jobs. Nurses and doctors, military personnel, psychologists, prison guards and other jobs can involve working with people at low points in their lives.

Do you have a job that others may see as depressing, and, if so, how do you deal with it? What made you go into a career that is potentially emotionally draining, and how do you stay upbeat? If you don’t have such a job, what are some of the jobs you never could see yourself doing, and why?

You mean like the repo man, foreclosure agent, dog catcher, intensive care nurse, funeral worker I could do any of those I’d have great difficulty with being an abortion doctor I can’t really see how being a baby killer could be a very satisfying career. I wouldn’t be able to do that.

Grave digger, funeral home worker, dr. or nurse of any kind. As for the abortion dr., just like all the other things we can’t fathom, someone has to do it! And let’s remember, IT’S A WOMANS CHOICE AS TO WHETHER SHE WILL REPRODUCE OR NOT!!!!! IT IS NO ONES CHOICE, BUT HERS, AND IF GOD DIDN’T INTEND FOR US TO HAVE THAT CHOICE, HE WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!! Judge not, lest ye be judged…………

Ok, here are a list of jobs, I personally would not want to do, Police officer, who ever administer death, in death penalty cases, DR. of any kind, Stripper, escort Fisherman/woman, Fireman/woman, pedicurist, janitor, teacher.

Most important job on my list are teachers and police officers, I would not do because they don’t get paid enough for their HARD work, and teachers shape the minds of any occupation.

Worst Jobs death executioner, I don’t care what anyone has done, I wouldn’t have the heart to do it.

And about the abortion issue, I feel that each individual will be judged concerning their part in an abortion, ie, mother, doctor. Let a person make their own choice, but depending on what they decide there are consequences.

The absolute worst job is the guy who cleans out the women’s hygiene recepticles in the bathrooms of office buildings….takes a pretty secure man to do that!

How about an artificial insemination specialist for cattle?

Now, THAT would be a job you couldn’t pay me enough to do!

Other than that? You also couldn’t pay me enough to be: a nurse, a lawyer, a dog catcher, the person cleaning restrooms anywhere, in retail again anywhere, in fast food, a cop, a jail guard, a social worker, the person who has to euthanize animals in shelters or the person who has to go out on the highways to pick up roadkill.

i work for a personal injury lawyer and all our clients are losing their houses and getting power shut off. that’s hard enough to deal with on a daily basis but then you have an attorney for your boss and co workers. they are weird people. it takes a special kind of freak to be an attorney. they’re all hyper scatter brained ADD-having moneymongers.

instead of an abortion the woman can choose to a)keep her legs shut b)insist her partner use a condom c)birth control and don’t use accessability or money as an excuse every state clinic has it extra cheap and readily available for you d)adoption. No innocent baby should pay for the mother’s choice. Can you imagine getting YOUR brains sucked right out of your skull, and your body being ripped apart? That’s worse than the atrocious torture of ancient times! And to a BABY?? if you never want kids plz get sterilized.

Ok, to detract from abortions and go back to nasty jobs…I would hate to be a mortician or a homicide investigator. You couldn’t pay me enough money to work on or with dead people!

My sister used to be a child protective services caseworker. She was very dedicated and terrific at the job, bud she finally had to quit. She was so overworked and drowning in paperwork (with no support staff due to budget cuts) that she was terrified she would make a mistake or miss something, and a child would die as a result. What’s scarier is that she worked in a county with one of the lowest caseloads in the state. (Think about that next time you hear stories about DFCS worker “errors” leading to tragedy.)

I also think it would be depressing to be a hospice worker because you get so close to your patients and then they die. It would be like a tragic cycle each time you were assigned to a new patient!

Inbound call center handling the southeastern states for a large telecom company based in the south (wink wink). That job sucked. Here’s the breakdown:

Florida—all rude and all OOOOOOOOOLLLLLDDDDuh. They were all from the north and snowbird’d in Florida. They couldn’t understand services or bills. They kept changing services thus goofing-up their bills worse and then it was our fault.

Mississippi—No comment.

Alabama—A bunch of rich retired arse holes they knew everyone in the company and they were going to call someone if we didn’t turn their services back on or quickly fix a problem caused by mother nature. If you know someone in a company, please call them first—we all put you on mute and laugh at you or do impressions. The managers and sr. managers do it as well. I’ve watched a sr. director do the “hand-jive” movement while speaking with one of you.

Georgia and New Orleans—I’ve combined these two for a reason. Both are full of morons that can’t pay their bills and complain when services are stopped for non-payment. Some in both states claim to know the same bigwigs as the Alabama people do—remember, call them first.

Tenn—I feel for these cats. They were the nicest and most pitiful. “Bless their hearts” came to mind.

SC—Full of sagging pants morons. ‘nough said. Oh yeah, pay your bills and stop buying crack.

NC—Similar to Alabama but less educated.

It sucked having to sit there every day listening to a 1-toothed idiot cuss you out. We had to take it. No hanging-up. No replying to them. Just take it. Happy people don’t call centers.

As a manager, I had a guy ask what kind of car I drove when I took an escalated call from one of my agents. I asked him why? He said that if I didn’t drive a nice car then I had no pull at the company. What a moron. He threatened to come to town and whip my arse. I called him back from my desk and told him to never call in again no matter what problem he had. It was his choice. I could file a complaint with the PD or he could never call in. I checked his account and he’s never called in since. I removed all of his discounts and specials as well just to spite. And if you’re reading this, I drive a Range Rover…

Be Nice…

I work the credit sector. There was a credit collector who kept calling a certain woman. Finally the old lady had her daughter call the guy’s office. The girl left a message on the answering service after business hours. In a shy voice.

The girl whispered softly saying: My moma really wants to kiss your butt …and then hung up. The next day the caller back ask the credit guy if he got the message the night before?

The credit guy responded saying: Yeah, but I can’t do nothing like that lady. This is a business. Besides, there are so many people in probate over past due morgages. Our computers are full up. With no room left on the drum.

I got lipblusterotius on both cheeks already and a thousand toothmarks from a frendly pitbull on the run. At the rate I’m going if I go one more I’ll be in line at the doctors office for an infected keister in need of a new set of buns.

At Weabob ‘n Shadows, thats just our half assed way of saying thanks. Its just a paper trail with no end. But you can always send me your photo and tell the old lady good luck. Call it a deductable. It just goes to prove one thing. Huh, sometimes.. credit sucks!
