Does star power call for stellar salaries?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Parade magazine released its annual “What People Earn” list, and amid the everyday people are a handful of celebrities.
With Jeff Foxworthy raking in $10 million and Ryan Seacrest bringing home $12 million, do you think these stars are worth what they earn?
Could you do a better job in their position?

Worth 12 million a year?? Heck no. Throw in all those sports stars as well. There is no way a person is worth 10 million a year because they can hit, throw, or catch a ball (or act in a movie). Our priorities and values in this country are so turned upside down. The only way things will change is if the “little people” stop supporting these greedy people. Could I do their job? No, but I am just as sure that they could not handle my job either. I have a college education, work my tail off, and make a good salary, but will barely see in a lifetime what these spoiled brats see in 2 years. Ridiculous.

As long as we’re more concerned about who gets voted off “American Idol” than who gets voted into the White House, Ryan Seacrest will continue to make $12 million-plus a year—which really isn’t that much. By comparison, John Paulson earned $3.5 billion in 2007 (about $13.5 million a day) running his hedge fund, and he didn’t even have to make an a* of himself on national television.

These questions are poor attempts to bring down celebs.
Most celebs earn the money they do because of the income they generate for the studios/networks/record companies/sports franchises. If the heads of these organizations were keeping all the money and not paying the talent, we’d be screaming that they are underpaid and exploited by the owners.
Now, would Braves/Falcons tickets be cheaper if players were’nt paid as much? Yes, but only by a couple of bucks.
Stars may be “overpaid” but alot of other people make money off them too. What is the solution? Make all movie/tv/sports stars public servants? Pay them with taxpayer money so they don’t earn too much? Should we just not have entertainment? I mean, with all the suffering in the world, should we be laughing and having a good time? All that money could be put to so much better use, don’t you think?

The reason celebrities earn so much is because we are obsessed with them. These people can sell ice to an eskimo just because they are a celebrity. Look at the Macy’s commercial. Celebrities never earned this much into normal people became so bored with their lives they started to live vicariously through them. Shoes, clothes, hairweaves. And why in the hell are celebrity parents writing books? Personally, I stop buying a lot of magazines because I they do is feature celebrities. And I don’t buy clothes from celebrity designers. It’s just over kill
