Are you part of the snooze crew?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The National Sleep Foundation recently conducted their annual Sleep in America poll. 1/3 of those surveyed said they got sleepy or actually fell asleep on the job in the past month.
So, fess up- have you ever fallen asleep on the job? Did you get caught? If you have any techniques to catch some shut-eye without being detected, feel free to share.
We all have worked with people that were night owls or party hounds and always seemed to barely be functioning on the job. Do you rat them out to the boss or do you just begrudgingly pick up their slack? What do you think about companies that provide power nap facilities for their staff?

Several of the black males here do it all the time. They tend to cry “Racism!” when they get reprimanded about it by management. However, this doesn’t seem to be a problem for anyone else in this work environment.

Black males? Why does it have to be about race? I work with a white male that is known for going to hide in a storage closet for 30 minute naps. He even puts his feet up against the door so folks can’t walk in on him. He’s supposed to be working!! The only time I would ever think of taking a nap is during my lunch.
In addition, this same person that would wander into the breakroom and watch soap operas instead of working during another coworkers lunch hour If you want to watch Guiding Light and you have a job, then you need to get a Tivo!! Because of him the owner of the company now has the TV permantly set on CNN. Thanks dude :(

“Sleeping on the job” is listed as a terminable offense at nearly any company, but there are certainly degrees. A person who is at their work station, accessible by phone and in person to anyone who might want to ask them a question, should not be worried about dozing off. Sometimes it just happens, especially after lunch, and such sleep episodes usually don’t last more than a few minutes.
That’s a far cry from someone who sneaks away from their workstation, goes into an empty room, shuts the door and gets comfortable in a dark corner for 30 minutes or so. That employee is deliberately abandoning work for the sole purpose of catching some Z’s.
I worked at a hotel in NY several years ago and the third-shift bartender was fired after it was discovered that he had a little “nest” made for himself in a closet, complete with pillow, blankets and an alarm clock! He worked two other jobs and that was the place he chose to catch up on his rest.

I’m starting to think that the majority of these race-baiting post are coming from the AJC staff themselves. How could any self-respecting news organization let such racist, filthy hate-mongering take place on their website? Who’s their moderator…. David Duke. Give me a break! It’s all by design. Have someone post an ignorant, hate-filled comment, then someone responds, and before you know it we’re having a blog race war instead of intelligently discussing and debating the original subject at hand. I challenge everyone that visits these blogs to IGNORE any and all racist post, because we’re above that. Then maybe they’ll crawl back into the hole from which they came. Only a sick, demented loser would take a subject like sleeping at work and use it to belittle African Americans. Shame on you AJC!

Kno Doubt,
I agree - the AJC needs to have tighter standards and be quicker to ban posters like Sheila. It’s too easy to turn this into a hatefest.

I am the moderator for this blog and I can assure you that I do review the comments that are posted. While you may not agree with the comment Sheila made, she did not use any racial slurs so her comment is within AJC guidelines.
If you feel someone is trying to race bait on a blog, then as Kno Doubt said, the best thing to do is ignore them. Those that violate AJC standards will be dealt with appropriately.
