Dream House founder is award finalist
Dream House founder Laura Moore reads to her daughter, Katie.
Laura Moore isn't sure how she and her Dream House charity were nominated. Regardless, she is one of nine finalists who may receive $50,000 for the charity of her choice and a Volvo for life.
Moore is CEO of Dream House, which cares for medically fragile children and trains and equips families to take care of them. One of Moore's goals is to set up homes across the state where medically fragile children could live temporarily and families could learn how to provide care so the children would not have to remain in hospitals.
Moore learned last fall that she was one of five Georgia finalists for the Volvo for Life Awards, a program sponsored by the carmaker to honor community heroes. Online voting determined the nine national finalists. It was announced last month that Moore was one of the nine, all of whom receive $25,000 charitable grants.
At press time, Moore was waiting to learn whether she is one of the three finalists who will go to New York for an April 5 ceremony and receive an additional $25,000. One of the three will win the Volvo.
Moore said the grant will help recruit, train and equip a team of six nurses to go across the state to teach families the skills to care for medically fragile children.
