The 23rd Advanced Practice Nurse Update, sponsored by the Georgia Southern University graduate nursing program, will be at Savannah Marriott Riverfront in Savannah. The event will include sessions about primary care, pediatrics and women's health that are relevant to nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists and physician assistants. The conference costs $285 ($315 after May 18), which includes all conference sessions and materials, two continental breakfasts, lunch and beverage breaks. The cost for Georgia Southern University preceptors is $225 ($255 after May 18) and $175 for students. A program by the Georgia chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association will include updates on best practices in the treatment of psychiatric emergencies, domestic violence and post-traumatic stress disorder, and sessions about the methamphetamine problem, psychotropic drug interactions, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, dementias, depression and malpractice. The event will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Hilton Atlanta Northeast in Norcross. Attendees will receive a course workbook and six CEU units. The cost is $30 for students, $60 for APNA members, $75 for nonmembers and $90 after May 15 and at the door. Breakfast and lunch will be served. "An Evidence-Based Practice Toolkit for Bedside Nurses," a nursing research conference, is jointly sponsored by WellStar Healthcare, Emory Healthcare and St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta. The event will be held at the WellStar Development Center in Atlanta from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Conference keynote speakers will include nurse researchers and authors Bernadette Melnyk and Tim Porter-O'Grady. The conference focus will engage direct-care nurses as well as nurse administrators, nurse managers, clinical nurse specialists, nurse educators and nurse researchers who are interested in conducting research and embracing evidence-based practice in clinical health care environments.
